Soundcloud Usage

I recorded a 10 minute mini mix that was supposed to be posted on soundcloud on Tuesday.  That was when I found out about soundcloud's lack of support for DJs and their mixes.  They require that a DJ get approval/permission from the labels of all the tracks he uses in a mix.  This is fueling my decision to move away from the great community of soundcloud and onto another online music site that allows me to post the mixes that I make without having to go through the trouble of having to get special licensing from the artists/labels.

In a standard 1 hour mix, a DJ can use anywhere from 10- 30 tracks, depending on how complex he/she wants to make the mix and how often he/she wants to switch tracks.  If a DJ is using 20 unique tracks from many different artists, that means he would have to contact up to 20 different artists/labels to get permission to post a mix with their track in it.  This can become very problematic.  Mainly because quite a few labels mock DJs who are trying to get their mixes out there.  These are the label companies that won't even respond to an email.  It can get very irritating, very quickly.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm afraid my support of soundcloud as a DJ is going to end.

If you have any opinions, comments, or questions on this please post in the comments below!

Regards,

Blay

  1. Yeah sounds like way to many damn hoops to jump through to get your work out there. I say switch too.
