Spinning Tonight

Twisted Tuesdays is a weekly EDM party that brings in the best local DJs.  I happen to be opening tonight.  I'm pretty excited as this is my first show in a long while.  I haven't performed in quite some time, so I am a bit nervous.

I'm just going to jump on stage and rock face.  It's just what I do.  :D

Wish me luck!

TOTD: Firestorm (Original Mix) - Far Too Loud

Far Too Loud released a hella tight electro house track in an EP called Firestorm.  The EP has 3 awesome electro, dirty sounding tracks.  All by Far Too Loud on Funkatech Records.  You can pick up this trio on Beatport for 7.47.

Great track right here.  One of my personal picks.  Pick it up!

Personalized Mixes

Lately many people want me to make them some full out mixes.  The only thing is they want them to be "special".  They want a personal mix that's just for them.  They also expect the mix to be ready really quickly.

Soundcloud Usage

I recorded a 10 minute mini mix that was supposed to be posted on soundcloud on Tuesday.  That was when I found out about soundcloud's lack of support for DJs and their mixes.  They require that a DJ get approval/permission from the labels of all the tracks he uses in a mix.  This is fueling my decision to move away from the great community of soundcloud and onto another online music site that allows me to post the mixes that I make without having to go through the trouble of having to get special licensing from the artists/labels.

In a standard 1 hour mix, a DJ can use anywhere from 10- 30 tracks, depending on how complex he/she wants to make the mix and how often he/she wants to switch tracks.  If a DJ is using 20 unique tracks from many different artists, that means he would have to contact up to 20 different artists/labels to get permission to post a mix with their track in it.  This can become very problematic.  Mainly because quite a few labels mock DJs who are trying to get their mixes out there.  These are the label companies that won't even respond to an email.  It can get very irritating, very quickly.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm afraid my support of soundcloud as a DJ is going to end.

If you have any opinions, comments, or questions on this please post in the comments below!

Tokyo in Tulsa!

What's going on EDMers... or ravers... or..

Well, forget it.

I was at TNT this past weekend.  For those of you who don't know TNT (Tokyo in Tulsa) is an anime convention in Tulsa Oklahoma.  It is one of the biggest in the region.  There many vendors, artists, and guests that come to this convention every year.  Personally I come more for the raves.  I talked up one of the DJs to Nerd Raves about coming to perform, All I gotta do is send him a kickin' mix!  He's going to get one.  TNT brought in a DJ from LA, a chick named HeavyGrinder.  I've heard of her before, but never heard her mix.  She's not a bad DJ.

I really enjoyed going to TNT.  Got to hang out with my friend Katie, met so awesome people, saw some awesome Cosplays, and competed in the Street Fighter tourney, Ate some food, paid too much for many things, and did a little self promotion by handing out some mixes.

Now to promote the show on the 31st that I'm opening up for.  I want it to be HUGE!!

Peace out!

TOTD: Rock the House (Original Mix) - Afrojack

I really wish I could give this track more credit than it is given.  Many people sometimes ask me this: "What's the true difference between Electro House and Progressive House."  I tend to categorize it at the type of sound.

This is generally the idea of Progressive House: Blessed - Tom Hangs.
This is Electro House in essence: Ready for the Stomping - Far Too Loud.

This is a great floor filler for you DJs.  Just toss this sucker in and BAM!

 Peace!

It's Been a While...

Every time I post here, I tend to say:  "Hey guys, I'm back! blah blah blah, I'm gonna post more, blah blah blah, Here is an awesome track, blah blah blah."

I'm going to stop.

Not the blog,  but saying, and not doing.

Over the past half month quite a bit has changed in my life, and long story short here is what happened.:

Got dumped by a girl I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with.
Lost 25 pounds.
Got really fit.
Did really well in school.
Focused on my future life and got an internship.
Started drinking.
Moved back in with the parents due to a flea issue at the apartment.
Moved back out.
Approved for promotion in the National Guard. (Now lets just hope I get it! :D)
Working at this internship, on my own, going to school.

Now I'm making the final step.  Connecting my DJ network in full passion.  Youtube account with my mixes.  Keeping my most up to date mixes available on soundcloud.  Daily updates on my Djing stuff.  Always talking about good tracks I find, etc.  Just essentially really doing what I love without the external pressure, which is easier now because I live alone.  I can do what I want.

You can take this as a promise, or an "I swear"  or whatever you want.

But Basscadet is back, as Blay.
