Status Update!

Hello electronic music lovers, likers, haters, and people in general!  I'm gonna take a break from the TOTD (Track Of The Day) for today and I'm gonna let you guys know what's going on in my life.  First of all, my semester is going pretty well.  The Launch of all these awesome games: Skyrim, Minecraft, Batman Arkham City (PC) and more have been keeping me really busy.

I've got gigs rolling in left and right, which is where I want to be DJing-wise.  I've been playing at a local Hookah Bar and we'll be having a show this upcoming Monday, which hopefully will rock.  I'll also be spinning some Hip-Hop with a buddy known as SmarT, along with my colleague Nemi.

The Digital Dance Club radio show is still going on, but we have delayed recording the podcasts for the sake of wanting more of a structure to how the show works.  I want it to be professionally produced.

I'll be upgrading my equipment.  For a while I've been using my S4, which is an amazing top notch DJ controller.  I'll be getting the Scratch upgrade for it, and either two turntables or two CDJs to plug in to use the timecode.  That means I'll be running 4 decks, and with turntables it'll give me the ability to learn how to really scratch, especially when mixing hip-hop beats.

That's about it guys!  Look forward to the TOTD tomorrow!  And who knows what Nemi might have in store for you!

Cheers!

TOTD: Resurrection (Axwell's Recut Club Version) - Michael Calfan

Hello DDC readers and revelers! I bring you the track of the day, brought to you by DJ Blay AKA Basscadet!  First, before I get into the meat of this, I'd like to wish all of you that are celebrating Thanksgiving a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  Also, PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE be careful tomorrow as it is Black Friday.  I wouldn't want any of you guys getting trampled while trying to bolt inside best buy.

Alright lets dig into this track.  Michael Calfan isn't a very well known producer, and one can tell this by checking out his facebook page.  He only has about 6-7 thousand likes.  But this tracks is quality, and I wouldn't be surprised if it made it into one of Tiesto's Club Life podcasts.  Axwell, who is actually VERY well known in the scene is the name on this track that is really making it heard in more places.  This track has a SICK progressive lead that really leaves you thinking: "Now THIS is what Progressive House is."
This song is pretty straight forward, great to playlist and easy to mix in and out of.  The repetitive synth rhythms make them pretty easy to loop so you can bring another track in from under it if you wish.  Like most Progressive House tracks, the builds are what makes the track.  Don't be playing with that build unless you really know what you are doing.  BPM: 128 Key: G Minor.

Cheers,

DJ Blay

Nemi's Pick (First Post!)

Hello friends! My name is Nemi and I am a DJ, musician working with Basscadet (Blay). I'm somewhat spontaneous when it comes to song selections, so expect my updates to appear sporadically.

That being said...

So I was cleaning out my inbox the other day and I stumbled across an invitation from one of my soundcloud links to download this FREE song by FireFarm. The track is called "No Good Start the Jericho" and it turns out that this is a cover medley of "Jericho" and "No Good Start the Dance" by The Prodigy. Now I know what you're probably thinking: "nobody can perform these tracks as well as The Prodigy!" In which case, if comparing the two side by side, you're probably right. However, I think that for what this song is, I would say this is a notable attempt. As a remix, I say this is top notch!

For those of you (like myself) who appreciate driving synth melodies and a grungy drum and bass undertow, I highly suggest giving this song a listen. The voice sampling is also ideal for building hype and getting folks up on their feet.

Le Youtube's (Jericho)

DJ tips: I would throw this song in as an intro for a jungle, dubstep, or drum and bass set, or perhaps just to simmer down the power of one before smacking folks again with the amazing build. This song is also good if you're looking for a motif to bring in and out as your set progresses. Perhaps instill a sense of nostalgia? Towards the end of the track, the stylings become more modern dubstep friendly. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to use that as a segway to a good ole' session of "wub wubs" either. (Yeah I said it!) Either way you choose to wield this ferocious weapon, be sure to let it play out and try not to mix in to early. This song has more than enough energy to stand on its own.

Well...there you go!

Back from a Break. TOTD: Levels (FTampa Remix) - Avicci

So it's been a while since I've made a post on here.  I don't even remember what font I regularly used on these blog posts. Not only that, but I don't even remember the format.  But I'll try and do this as best as I can.

Also:  look forward to the podcasts being posted up on here at a much quicker rate!

So this track is a remix of Avicci's Levels, which is known as a very "synthy" progressive house track that tends to lie, on a scale of chill to epic, above epic. This remix takes this track on a new spin and makes it all... er... electro-y.  But seriously it rocks, check it out.

DJs: The levels between the build and the drop is rather... wide, so if you think you need to raise your levels during the build to compensate for the song, DON'T!  The drop will be heavy and hit fast.  Breaks are a great spot to mix another track in, that main melody line is also a great accapella for a loop to drop another beat on it.

TOTD: Pay Your Own Way (Original Mix) - Tantrum Desire

I know I know I know... You guys are like "FINALLY SOME NEW EDM!!!"  But hey, I will deliver... eventually.

So here we have a sick Drum and Bass track that rocks the bass with a bit of synth that throws you for a loop.  Just give it a listen and you'll love it.  :D

DJ's  This song has SICK breaks, don't mess with them, they really compliment the music.  If anything add some extra vocals while shearing away it's own to add some effect.

Cheers!

TOTD: Work Hard, Play Hard (Original Mix) - Tiësto Feat. Kay

Another Tiesto track is born here today!  I am here to tell you that this track is truly something.  Classified as electro house, but I believe it to be Electro house with some prog in it.  So therefore Progressive Electro House.

I'll let the music speak for itself, Tiësto is just that good. :]

For the DJ's:  Tiesto has been releasing and endorsing a lot of good music.  Don't be afraid to play many of his tracks.

Also!  There is a remix contest for this track.  I'm thinking of taking part in it.  I'll be going up against many other very talented DJs.  and this will be my first chance to remix a track.  This won't be the remixing that I go into audacity copy and paste all that jazz.  I'm talking the different parts on a turntable and cueing them up and completely remaking the song on the spot.

Tell me what you think about this track in the comments below, hopefully if I make a good remix I will post it in the blog!

Wish me luck!

TOTD: Hazard (Original Mix) - Leon B

Hard dance is a genre that is very popular in small places.  What I mean is, it's not like house where quite a few people can say: "I know this song" or "I know that artist".  Hard dance tends to feed itself to a specific audience.  Most of these members know how to do a type of dance that goes well with the music.  Two examples of the dancing are the Melbourne Shuffle and Jumpstyle.  Both of these dances work well with the hard dance genre, or if you want to call it: Hardstyle.

This track, Hazard has topped beatport for a while, and it's a sweet track.  I'm going to share it with you guys.

For the DJs:  most of you won't have to worry about mixing music like this because like I said, fans of it are few far and in between.  But when you have to, it might be hard.  The beat along with the bass in this music can be tricky, and can actually make it feel like a 5 beat per measure track every once in a while.  This is a kind of song that you mix in at the beginning and out at the end.  Don't try and mix this with most regular house, if anything use it with prog house because they tend to have the same buildup pattern.

Cheers

TOTD: JAGUAR (Original Mix) - Marlo

Some of you who follow me and have listened to my podcast probably know my favorite part of good electronic music.  It starts with a "s" and ends with a "h".  Can you guess what it is?
...
...
...
SYNTH!!!!

This Trance track, JAGUAR has a sweet melodic synth line and does a good job of build ups.  It is definitely worth checking out!

To the DJs  Trance mixes well with house, but don't go too overboard.  Trance tracks tend to be long so be sure to feel your crowd and find a good point to mix something else in if need be.  What's a good rule?  DON'T SCREW WITH THE BUILD UP OR DROP!

That is all.

Podcast Tonight! Taking Requests!

I'm going to take some request songs here, please take a look at Beatport.com and if you find any songs that you like, tell me and I'll purchase them to mix tonight!

Here are some guidelines:

  • Progressive house is the best choice, because I love it.  Make sure it's synthy.
  • If it is UK Hardcore or Happy Hardcore, I'm cool with that too.
  • Drum and Bass is cool, but I'm very picky.
  • No Dubstep please, I've got too much of it.

Post your requests in the comment section BELOW

Edit: Pic of me Djing a live show.  =]

TOTD: Killer 2K11 (Afrojack Remix) - FM Audio

Many of you know who Afrojack is.  For those of you who don't he's a great remixer and house producer, and this progressive house track is nothing less.  The original mix by FM Audio, now remixed by Afrojack rocks.  Check it out on the links BELOW...
DJs: 128 BPM, Mixes well with other house.  This track isn't that long (Running at about 4:18) and is in the key of D# minor so be aware of your circle of fifths!

TOTD: Mystic Sunset (Original Mix) - DJ Marky, S.P.Y.

Coming straight from the Innerground label comes a body rocking and bass-tastic Drum and Bass Piece.
Mystic Sunset.  This track was released along with another track titled Yellow Shoes, which I highly recommend as well.  These pieces integrate some nice female vocals without overdoing it (TONS of electronic songs overdo vocals).

Now for you Mixers out there this track is a drum and bass track.  Drum and bass drum beats come in varying rhythms so be sure when you mix this track, you have a VERY similar drum beat to this one.  Know your tracks!  This track rolls around 116 BPM and is in the key of D minor.  Keys don't matter as much as beat matching for you DJs that aren't making 7 figures a year.

Enjoy!

TOTD: Epic (Original Mix) - Quintino and Sandro Silva

The Musical Freedom yet again releases another great Progressive House track.  The Musical Freedom is a label set up by Tiesto himself!  So you can't doubt this.  This track is wild and crazy and you have GOT to check it out.  But only if you're wild and crazy.
Fine Print for you DJs.  Most of my TOTDs mix well, so I'd suggest throwing this in a good house set!

TOTD: Around The World (Original Mix) - Arty

Another Progressive house piece here today!  In case you guys didn't know Progressive house is very well known for it's HUGE build ups and not letting those build ups down.  I personally love Prog House much more than any other kind.  (other types of house are almost boring to me)  But this is always exciting and Around The World doesn't let you down.  Not once.

Mixes well.  By the way a lot of these TOTDs I download that same day and will mix it on my podcast. So look forward to that!

Digital Dance Club Podcast: The first 5 episodes!

So I actually never got around to posting these podcasts to a blog or even promoting them.  These podcasts are performed and recorded live on a local radio station in North West Arkansas.  KXUA 88.3  and can be listened to live every Wednesday night from 10pm to 12am CST.

The podcast is not formatted at all.  I walk in, break out my gear and spin whatever is on my mind.

Hope you guys enjoy these episodes of Digital Dance Club and look forward to more to come!

TOTD: Raise - Hedonist Vs. Nhato

This is another great track of the day, brought to you only by Bass Cadet, me!.  This track, Raise, can be classified as Hard Dance or Tech Trance.  I feel it being a little bit of both.  It runs at about 134 BPM so it mixes well with other house and trance tracks.  Good addition to the collection if you ask me!

Not only that, but the picture for the track is minimalistic, and cool at the same time.

TOTD: Unprepared (Marcel Woods Remix) - Marco V

The track of the day today is Unprepared which is a boss progressive house track.  This track features a musical word known as counterpoint.  Counterpoint is two melodies at once.  This track features one melody (The vocals) then the synth.  Then soon after that, both at the same time.  It just makes you want to get crazy down on the floor

This track mixes well as it has a good rhythmical intro and outro.

Enjoy!

TOTD: Track of the Day! Don't Ditch (Original Mix) - Tiësto and Marcel Woods

Don't Ditch by Tiesto and Marcel Woods is a track that is featured in Tiësto's Club Life Vol. 1.  It is one of the top tracks in the mix and has gracefully appeared in clubs all around.

Check it out for yourself.

This track is categorized as Progressive House and can be mixed well with most of any kind of House music.
